About the role
Goal Get It! is hiring a Deputy General Counsel to help scale our legal, privacy, and risk capabilities as we expand scholarships, outreach, and education technology. You’ll be a strategic advisor and a practical operator—building clear guidance, fast contract workflows, and strong governance that protects applicants, partners, and Lu’s legacy.
What you’ll do
Advise leadership on legal strategy across programs, outreach, product/engineering, and operations.
Lead review and negotiation of contracts (vendors, partners, data sharing, sponsorships).
Own privacy and data protection support (policies, guidance, incident readiness, vendor risk).
Improve legal intake and self-service playbooks (templates, clause libraries, approvals).
Manage outside counsel when needed and keep work scoped, on-time, and budget-aware.
Use AI tools substantively for drafting, triage, issue-spotting, and summarization—while protecting privilege/confidentiality and applying attorney judgment.
Education & experience
Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (or equivalent legal qualification where you are based).
Typically 8+ years of relevant legal experience (in-house, firm, government, or nonprofit).
Experience advising on contracts, privacy, and risk in a fast-moving environment.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Strong contract drafting/negotiation skills with a practical, business-friendly approach.
Ability to translate legal requirements into clear, usable guidance for non-lawyers.
Sound judgment handling sensitive applicant, student, and financial information.
Substantive AI-tool fluency (drafting, research, and workflow acceleration) with rigorous verification and confidentiality safeguards.
Nice to have
Experience with education, nonprofit, or scholarship-related programs.
Familiarity with security/vendor risk processes and incident response coordination.
Experience building contract templates and scalable legal ops workflows.
Working conditions
Remote work with some cross-time-zone collaboration.
Occasional deadline-driven hours for negotiations, launches, or incident response.
Compensation
This role is open to candidates regardless of location. Compensation will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
Expected base salary range (annual, USD): $210,000 – $320,000.
