About the role

The Applicant Support Counselor helps applicants move from interest to submission with clarity and confidence. You’ll provide responsive support, run info sessions, and improve self-service resources—helping ensure fairness and access across backgrounds.

What you’ll do

  • Respond to applicant questions via email/chat (timelines, eligibility, troubleshooting, documentation).

  • Run group sessions (webinars, office hours) and create easy-to-follow guides.

  • Triage complex cases and coordinate escalations with Programs/Engineering as needed.

  • Maintain and improve FAQs, templates, and knowledge base content.

  • Use AI tools to draft responses, synthesize common issues, and improve documentation—while ensuring accuracy, tone, and privacy.

Education & experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience).

  • 1–3 years in admissions advising, student success, customer support, or counseling-style roles.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Strong written communication, empathy, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage sensitive personal information confidentially.

  • Substantive AI tool use: capable of using AI to speed support workflows (drafting, categorization, docs) while verifying answers and never exposing sensitive applicant data.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting scholarship applicants, multilingual skills, accessibility accommodation familiarity.

Working conditions

Peak volume near deadlines; occasional evenings/weekends.

Compensation

This role is open to candidates regardless of location. Compensation will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

Expected base salary range (annual, USD): $51,000 – $74,000.

The pay offered will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the role, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
